Five Fab Toys for the Kids on Your Christmas List

December 02, 2008

Now that I know you know about some of the great book reviews Savvy has, it's time to introduce you to the toys.  With Christmas just around the corner, check out the massive database of educational toys that Savvy has already reviewed for ideas on what to get any child on your list.  Here are a few of our family favorites....

Geotrax Rail and Road Grand Central Station

Both the boys love trains.  We have many, many different sets of tracks and trains.  Last year this is all my youngest (4) wanted from Santa and it didn't disappoint!  Of all the railroad systems we have, this is the easiest for him to put together and play with.  The track stays together and doesn't fall apart.  We just got him moreGeoTrax for his birthday - sturdy, well put together, great for the imagination and fun!
Alphabet Puzzle:
Sometimes simple is best.  I love that this puzzle has both upper and lower case letters.  We play games as we do the puzzle, thinking of words that begin with each letter.
Standard Unit Blocks:
Again, simple is best.  We got my son, now seven, a set of these wooden building blocks for his very first Christmas.  To this day, they are the favorite toy around the house.  Easy to share and you're only limited by your imagination!
Ride and Rescue Cozy Coupe:
One of my oldest son's favorite toys!  He was hesitant to "pass it down" to his little brother, who loved it just as much!  Not battery powered like some of the new-fangled cars and coupes and trucks, this one runs on genuine kid power.  My kids had more fun with this than the battery-powered alternatives.
Candyland:
Probably the best first game ever.  I remember it from when I was a kid, and my kids now have it and love it.  Helps reinforce color recognition and good gamesmanship -- both winning and losing (something we're working hard on in this family).

Please feel free to peruse the toys we have reviewed and add your own!
