More Books for Your Home Library
December 04, 2008
I've got some more book recommendations for you from the Savvy Source for Parents list of educational books, toys and games. If you haven't yet checked out their lists, make sure you do. Lots of great books, some new ones to check out along with classics that you may have forgotten about.
Flotsam:
Both my boys (ages 4 and 7) love this book. We got it from our local library first and it was such a hit we had to have it. The pictures are fantastic. As the boys look at it more and more they make up things about what the camera will see next! Wonderful book.
There's a Bird on Your Head:
Mo Willems is truly funny. My kids love this book. It's simple, it's funny and right up my kids' alley. And it's not just the story, but the pictures are simple, yet funny too.
Best Word Book Ever:
I remember Richard Scarry books from when I was little and still love looking through them with my kids. This one is a great book for kids to learn first words. The activity on the pages entices the kids, they look at the words and associate them with the pictures. It really is one of the best books ever.
Madeline:
What is not to love about Madeline? I loved her when I was growing up and my boys love her too. Since it's a book about a "girl" I got our first Madeline book from the library and she's been a favorite with the boys ever since. She is a bit mischievous, but has the spunk and personality to win not only the hearts of the characters in the story, but those reading as well.
Edwina: The Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct:
Another hit for Mo Willems... this book had my kids in stitches from the first page right through to the end. And there were so many good messages in the book, from friendship, to caring, to being yourself, and what it feels like when people don't listen to you. A must for any children's library!
