A-Z of Atlanta: I & J
December 01, 2008
Continuing on our alphabetical journey through this wonderful city, we're now up to...
I is for...
IMAX:
Located at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the IMAX Theater
shows seasonal and educational films for the whole family. The films
have an extra large screen and surround sound to let you feel like you
are part of the film.
ImagineIT: The Children's Museum of Atlanta:
The perfect museum for kids 8 and under. Totally hands on with
exhibits kids can really get their hands on and in. From water play to
pulleys and levers to painting and more. Great place for kids and
their parents to explore and learn
J is for...
Jimmy Carter Library and Museum:
Former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner and native Georgian.
This is his official presidential library. The museum covers Carters
life and career -- from growing up in Plains, Georgia all the way
through his presidency. The library includes the worlds most exact
replica of the Oval Office. For preschoolers, the library hosts a
special "Book Nook & Garden Safari" on select Monday's throughout the summer (resumes June 2009).
William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum: "The Breman celebrates and commemorates the Jewish experience and the universal themes of diversity and human dignity."
You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate the Bremen. The museum
brings the Jewish culture to life for all visitors. There are exhibits
about Jewish life, culture and history as well as the role of the
Jewish Community in Atlanta. There is also a Holocaust gallery that
may not be suitable for young children, but be sure to check it out
with your pre-teens and teen age children.
