The Child In the Mirror

January 13, 2009

"Twist me and turn me and show me an elf,
I looked in the water and saw.... Myself"

from Brownie Girl Scout's Initiation pledge.

When I first read the theme for today's national list topic, this was the first thing that came to mind.  I can remember so clearly my Brownie initiation and how exciting it was.  I felt so grown up!  Anyway, I digress...

Kids love looking at themselves in the mirror.  As you can see, my son Sam is completely taken with himself!

But did you ever wonder, when your child looks in the mirror, or sees her reflection, what do she see?  Is she looking at her features, making faces, or looking deep into the person she is and will become?

There are plenty of places around Atlanta for you to explore your child's reflection.  And talk to them, let them know how special they are, so they grow up believing it.

Here are my top tips for great places for your child to see his or her reflection.

1. In the glass at one of the big fish tanks at the Georgia Aquarium.

2. In their self portrait at the High Museum of Art on Toddler Thursdays.

3. In front of the mirrors playing dress-up at ImagineIt-The Children's Museum of Atlanta.

4. In the glass at the cafeteria at IKEA Atlanta.

5. In the lake at Piedmont Park.

You know I'm always up for more suggestions.  I'd love to hear your suggestions!
