Tellus: Northwest Georgia Science Museum Opens Today!

January 12, 2009

A few weeks ago my family and I went to Chattanooga to visit the Tennessee Aquarium (we LOVE that place!)

On the way home, a large, new building caught my eye.  It was the building for Tellus: Northwest Georgia Science Museum.  Of course when I saw that, I had to come home and look it up immediately!

My oldest son wants to be a scientist and LOVES science!  In fact, in a few weeks, he is going to London and has plans to visit the Science Museum in London and can't stop talking about it!

Anyway, what I found out about Tellus is a "world-class 120,000 square foot museum...."  The museum has four main galleries: The Weinman Mineral Gallery which sparkles with gems from all over the world; The Fossil Gallery which holds a skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and 40 other pre-historic fossils, Science in Motion which showcases the evolution of motorized transportation and The Collins Family My Big Backyard where kids can become mad scientists and learn about the world around them.  And there is a 120-seat digital planetaruim and observatory where you can travel the galaxy or observe the stars.

I can't tell you how excited I am to bring the kids!  I'm not sure it will be the same calibre as the Science Museum in London, but this one is in our own back yard!  And it looks amazing.

And it opens TODAY!

Tellus is located in Cartersville just off I-75 at exit 293.  It's open Monday - Sunday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.  Prices vary so check their website or call for details.  If youâ??d like to schedule a group visit or a field trip, please call 770-606-5699
